The weather is getting colder, and we have a handmade holiday on our minds! Handmade gifts have heart, are better for the environment, and, if you opt to buy, it supports independent artists!
If you want to have a totally handmade holiday, now is the time to get started. Over the next couple of months, we’ll be posting about recycled gifts and giftwrap you can make yourself and great handmade finds for sale!
To get things started, check out Sheryl of Twisted Limb Paperworks’ awesome video tutorial for making your own gift tags from last year’s Christmas cards:

I’m sure there are other great recycled gift tag tutorials out there, too! If you know of one, we’d love you to share in the comments!

That’s a great idea. I happened to see this picture of gift tags made from a vintage children’s book the other day: http://www.flickr.com/photos/35516546@N00/3012987564/. I don’t really like the idea of cutting up books, but if you have one that’s in bad shape anyway, the results look great.
I’m having flashbacks of when I was little and mom would always pull out all the X-mas cards from the previous year to use as gift tags. Back then I didn’t have an appreciation for going green or saving money, but now I do! I think this idea could expand beyond the holiday season, perhaps to thank you cards, happy b-day messages, etc. I love it!
I just posted a tutorial and then found this via google. Very cool! You can find mine here.
