A Review of Green Crafts for Children By Emma Hardy

Ever time I pick up a new eco-craft book I am so amazed at the creativity I find inside and I swear I like each new one even more than the last, though every book I have found has fun, new ways to take old things and recycle or more accurately upcycle them into fabulous new items.

Green Crafts for Children: 35 Step-by-Step Projects Using Natural, Recycled, And Found Materials is full of cute, whimsical and super adorable crafts that kids, especially little girls, are going to love.

The projects in this book can be made from items you may have in your cupboard, lying around the house, or even in your yard like nuts, pine cones, and tree bark.

There are recipes for salt dough and the cutest play fruit, letter, beads and tea set projects to make from it, there’s also paper mache projects, yarn and wool projects, fabric and tissue paper flowers, and one of my personal favorites- glove creatures.

Do you ever end up with one lonely glove that has no mate? With three kids we are always finding one lonely but colorful glove all by itself. Now instead of tossing it back in the glove and hat bin it can be put in the craft box then later made into a cute little glove creature with just a little bit of sewing (so simple even I, the non-sewer, can do) and some additions of buttons and little bits of fabric scraps, ribbons, or whatever you have on hand.

Another beautiful and whimsical craft I just adore in this book is the Dried Flower Fairies. My daughter’s name is Arianna, we call her Ari (rhymes with fairy) and her bedroom is done fairy tale style complete with a princess, unicorns, castles and…you guessed it fairies. This project will help us create some pretty, homemade art to add to her cute fairy collection. (We better start collecting and drying the flowers now before fall hits.)

Another adorable project is the walnut babies, so cute. I never would have looked at a walnut and thought let’s turn that into a baby. The eggshell mosaic is pretty crafty, too. I’ll have to remember to save some egg shells, right now they’re all being sent to the garden.

If you have little girls this is the green craft book to get. It even shows you how to make the cutest dollhouse and dollhouse furniture out of cardboard scraps, super cute.

Green Crafts for Children: 35 Step-by-Step Projects Using Natural, Recycled, And Found Materials by Emma Hardy is a craft book I highly recommend for green mamas and their green girls. There are a few projects boys might enjoy too (Like the pine cone animals and the gourd creatures) but really this book is more for the girly girls to enjoy. My daughter has already picked out a handful of things she wants us to make.
