Green Crafter Profile: Upcycled Bicycle Parts from 1.by.liz

I am completely in love with Liz Dickey’s art made from discarded bicycle parts! She launched 1.by.liz, making and selling her reCYCLED art, in Portland, Oregon just a few years ago. Each of her one-of-a-kind clocks and magnets are made from upcycled materials.

All of 1.by.liz‘s designs are inspired by and made from recycled & reclaimed materials. She says that she has always been inspired by different materials – texture, color, light, nature – and the various perspectives they offer. She loves the spontaneity of working with found objects. It lets each piece have a unique look and personality. Liz gets her inspiration from digging through fabric bins and degreasing worn out bike parts.

When Liz isn’t creating upcycled art pieces, she teaches, and much of her inspiration also comes from working with children. She says that kids see possibility in all materials! You can see more of her work in the 1.by.liz Etsy shop. Portland locals can check her out at a few upcoming craft shows:
