Green Craft Supply Alert!

colored-smencils.jpgI have just discovered Smencils and had to share them with the world! Smencils are gourmet scented pencils made from 100% recycled newspaper. You can even see the layers of newspapers when they are sharpened! The Smencil World website not only offers original Smencils, but also a colored variety, mini kits and home kits for the do-it-yourselfer!

They can customize for business or events and work with organizations to make fundraising kits. What a great way to promote your green business or raise money for a cause! Sure, there are recycled newspaper pencils on the market, but where else can you find pencils that smell like your favorite fruit or dessert? Life is too short to leave your sense of smell out of the experience of writing a letter!

  1. I’ve seen these before, but they always seemed a bit over-packaged. I suppose that’s to help preserve the scent, but individual plastic tubes seems like it defeats the purpose a little.

  2. Ah, well recycled plastic makes it a little better. And I should have figured you crafty ladies would figure out ways to re-use everything.

    :)

  3. Yes, smencils are great but they are not environmental…Don’t highlight them on your environmental site. These pencils are packaged in dioxin laden plastic - so the smell can stay. Great idea, but delivery system sucks. We can’t be promoting these.
Look at O’BON recycled newspaper pencils instead. No smell, but a real recycled product your kids will love. check out our site at http://www.school-obon.com

  4. The tubes are made from recycled plastic, and if you either recycle the tubes again or reuse them, there’s not much harm done. My duaghter’s school sells these at it’s school store and they are a huge moneymaker for the kids.

  6. While the smencil pencil certainly can be congratualated for their wonderful smells, but don’t hock them as being environmental - as they certainly are not! Look at the plastic tube which encases each pencil - as environmentalists, we must say no to plastic. The amount of dioxin in that tube is laughable - so don’t push these as being environmental. Check out O’BON pencils - now they are cool.
